The Rubenstein Hartung Duo - One Piano, four hands 28th May 2026RobinRubensteinandVictoriaHartungdelightedtheiraudienceintheseventhandfinalconcertofthe Society’s67thseason,performingonthesuperbSteinwaypianointhegrandsettingoftheAssembly RoomatGrimsbyTownHall.Theyplayedawonderfullydiverseprogramme,openingbrilliantlywiththe AllegrotoMozart’sCMajorSonata.Fromthestartonewasstruckbytheclearseparationbetween bothpartsthatwasmaintainedthroughouttheconcert,thefulluseoftheSteinway’sdynamicrange fromsensitivepianostoexcitingfortes–theirMozartrocked!TheAllegrowascontrastedbyasweet anddelicatepianointheAndantesecondmovement.ThefinalAllegrettohadawell-markedentryand RobinandVictoriaperformedmanydazzlingflourisheswhilstremainingcontrolledthroughseveral falseendings.TheMozartwaswelljuxtaposedbytheSchubertFantasieinFMinor,acomplexpiece fullofcontrastsbroughtoutwellbyRobinandVictoriainaseamlessduetastheysmoothlytransitioned fromoneideatothenext,providingspaceforchangesofmoodandshowinggreatstaminademanded by the piece. AftertheintervalVictoriaandRobinchangedplacesandperformedBrahm’sVariationsonathemeby RobertSchumann-Schumann’s‘lastmusicalthought’thathesaidwasdictatedtohimbyangels;a luxuriouspiecewithdepthandcontrast.ThenfollowedRavel’swondrousMotherGooseSuitebeginningwiththedelightfulandimpressionisticSleepingBeauty,followedbythesurprisinglygentleTomThumb.EmpressofthePagodasprovidedforexcitinginterplaybetweenVictoriaandRobin,andthenBeautyandtheBeast–atfirstgentle,thendevelopingatumultuous tensionbeforegivingwaytoatinglingdelicatelyplayedclose.TheFairyGardenprovidedawonderfulfinaletothesuite.Inafirstclass displayofskillandshowmanshipRobinandVictoriatoppedofftheirconcertwithBrahm’sHungarianDanceNo.5–leavingtheaudiencewith a smile.
